It has been
a wonderful experience working with Michael Pinder. Mike is
the founder and original keyboard player
for the band the Moody Blues. Mike and his wife, Tara, are interested
in mythology and in particular the work of Joseph Campbell. Several
years ago they decided to create a trilogy of recorded children’s
stories and spent a year researching children’s books.
They found twenty stories that they liked and set out to record
them. Mike created “sound designs and musical atmospheres” for
each story that he narrates. A PLANET
WITH ONE MIND is first
in their trilogy. It features A
SPARK IN THE DARK along with
six other stories. Richard created the cover art on the CD/cassette.
With the success of A
PLANET WITH ONE MIND, Mike asked us for a second and third story. We wrote
a sequel to A SPARK IN THE
DARK called THE LITTLE BLUE BALL. An abbreviated version of this
story appears on Mike’s second CD/cassette, A PEOPLE WITH
ONE HEART. The third CD/cassette in the trilogy has not yet been
released.
We've participated in several bookstore events
with Mike Pinder, which is always fun, and we attended the Benjamin
Franklin awards
with Mike and Tara in Chicago.

THE LITTLE
BLUE BALL
THE
LITTLE BLUE BALL, written
by Richard Tichnor and Jenny Smith, is the sequel to A SPARK
IN THE DARK. It is a
story about two children who think they are one person. When
they see their reflection in a pool of water and discover they
are two different people they start to argue about who is better.
A wise fish in the water reminds them that our differences make
each person special.
THE LITTLE BLUE BALL is
not yet published in book form and appears in edited form
exclusively on the
CD/cassette, A PEOPLE WITH ONE HEART.
